On March 4, 2021 the International Code Council (ICC) released a new framework intended to assist governments in meeting climate goals. The new framework transitions the development of the IECC from a consensus based development process to an approved standards process which includes new energy code committees that will review and evaluate proposals for updates to the IECC using the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) process.
The GOE will continue to participate in the new process to ensure continued efficiency of the energy code is achieved as the agency will no longer have the ability to vote on the proposed provisions of the future iterations based on the updated process.
